Excursion Cefalù and Castelbuono

Departure from the hotel from Sciacca to go to Cefalù . Mandralisca Museum is really important, among the works here you can admire the famous “Ritratto d’Ignoto” , attributed to Antonello da Messina , an oil painting  that dates back to 1465. Interesting to visit , although tiring to reach, is “La Rocca di Cefalù” , which offers a splendid view over the city ; in addition to the fortification remains, here it stands Diana Temple, a polygonal Greek-Archaic work.

Cefalù is notable for beautiful sunsets, unpretentious charm, and a very appealing blend of ingredients for an Italian seaside holiday. Sandy beaches, a picturesque historic town on a rocky headland, some high culture in the shape of a fine Norman cathedral, decent transport links, Sicilian food and sunshine all add up to make the town one of Italy’s most attractive seaside destinations.

Castelbuono, rises on the ruins of Ypsigro a Byzantine hamlet. One of the oldest traditions of Castelbuono is its annual Carnival, where the village organises a satirical performance that represents the people, places and events related to local history. The village also hosts the Divine Festival, a very popular gastronomic event in Italy. Otherwise its best asset is the production of a typical Sicilian cheese called Provola delle Madonie and the famous Panettone di Fiasconara, a typical Christmas sweet of North Italy brought here by Nicola Fiasconaro, who became famous after producing his own version of the dessert using a natural sweetener drawn by ashes.
