Fisherman for a day aboard Mamma Caterina: fishing tourism
ITINERARY:
The fishing trip begins the night with the lampare. After identifying the fish, the lamp is lowered into the sea which attracts the fish. When the fish are under the lamp a net is lowered into the sea forming a semicircle and enclosing the fish in the net. After depositing the fish in the boat, it is moved to the boxes with ice and salt.
After this first step, we continue with the processing of the caught fish, passing from the “scapatura”, to the salting and filleting, up to storage in jars.

In Sciacca, the fish-canning industry works and produces, number one in the world for the turnover of preserved blue fish. The handcrafted product is of excellent quality and is appreciated by the Italian table, which already knows its merits and qualities that are certainly deserving.
Sciacca also has the second fishing port after Mazara, the fishing fleet is numerically very consistent and varied. It starts from small tonnage boats to large tonnage boats, all depending on the various types of fishing.
