Azzurro Fest – International Mediterranean Festival in Sciacca
Azzurro Fest, the International Mediterranean Festival held in Sciacca, is a major event celebrating the island’s food and wine heritage and promoting the excellence of the territory.
The festival’s organizers have chosen to focus on what has made Sicily famous worldwide — its extraordinary culinary traditions.
Street Food, with its ancient roots, is more popular than ever today, and at the heart of Azzurro Fest it becomes a true symbol of Sicilian identity.
Inside the Azzurro Village, visitors will find the “Azzurro Street Food” area — a thematic journey through the delicious world of Sicilian street cuisine.
The Azzurro Festival transforms into a lively “Vuccirìa”, inspired by Palermo’s famous historic market, thanks to skilled chefs and food professionals preparing mouthwatering traditional and innovative recipes, cooked and served live every day of the event.
A food market with five stands awaits festival-goers, each offering a unique taste and aroma, all inspired by the flavors of the Mediterranean Sea.
What to Taste at Azzurro Fest
Visitors can enjoy:
- The traditional “panino con le panelle”, reimagined with Sciacca shrimp and Bronte pistachio
- Boiled octopus, prepared according to Sicilian tradition
- Fish cous cous, hand-rolled using the ancient “incocciatura” technique
- The authentic pizza saccense, named after Sciacca and topped with salted sardines freshly caught in local waters
The highlight of this edition is the “Arancine ai Due Neri”, created in collaboration with a Sicilian Slow Food association — two irresistible arancine featuring unique fillings: one with cuttlefish ink and one with Nebrodi black pork.
The Azzurro Street Food area also features a Wine Tour showcasing six Sicilian wineries inside the Azzurro Village.
Armed with a glass and tasting pouch, visitors can sample six exceptional Sicilian labels, each perfectly paired with dishes from the street food stands.
The festival proudly involves the students of the Calogero Amato Vetrano Hospitality Institute in Sciacca, who put into practice their culinary and hospitality skills through direct collaboration with professionals.
Azzurro Fest is an event dedicated to promoting Sicilian cuisine, local wine traditions, exceptional ingredients, and the island’s outstanding professional talent — a true celebration of taste and Mediterranean culture.
