Excursion in Palermo and Monreale-ESC02

Our excursion to Palermo begins at 8:30 am, with pick-up from your hotel or from our agency in Sciacca, followed by transfer by comfortable minibus to the vibrant Sicilian capital.

The first stop will be at the Catacombs of the Capuchins, with about 30 minutes to visit. (Tip: ask for Massimo for explanations in French – he’s very helpful!)

We then continue to the historic center of Palermo, where your free walking tour begins. You will be dropped off near the Palatine Chapel, where you may also purchase a ticket to visit the Royal Palace of the Normans. Just a few hundred meters away, you will find the majestic Palermo Cathedral, before continuing through the city center.

You will have around 3 hours of free time to explore Palermo’s main attractions, highlighted on your map:

• Quattro Canti
• Martorana Church
• Piazza Pretoria
• Palazzo Steri
• Teatro Massimo and Politeama
• The lively markets of Capo and Vucciria, perfect to taste authentic Sicilian street food.

At 2:00 pm, departure from Piazza Politeama towards the magnificent Cathedral of Monreale, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for its golden mosaics. On the way, you will also have the chance to admire other fascinating corners of Palermo.

The visit to Monreale lasts about 1 hour and 30 minutes, giving you enough time to explore the impressive Cathedral (Duomo) and its magnificent Cloister (tickets available at the office next to the Cathedral).

Don’t miss the chance to enjoy a delicious ice cream with brioche at the historic Bar Italia, a local favorite.
Before returning, take a short walk to the viewpoint: from here you can admire breathtaking views over Palermo and, on clear days, even catch a glimpse of the distant Egadi Islands.
