Our adventure begins at 1,900 meters, where we’ll take the Etna cable car up to 2,500 meters.
From there, we’ll continue aboard special 4x4 off-road buses up to the maximum reachable altitude of about 3,000 meters.
Exploring the Craters
Accompanied by a licensed Alpine–Volcanological Guide, we’ll walk along the rim of the Lower Barbagallo Crater, offering spectacular views of the Ionian Coast and the 2001 eruption crater.
We’ll then reach a panoramic plateau to observe:
✅ The Upper Barbagallo Crater
✅ The South-East Crater, still active today
✅ The Central Crater, the beating heart of Mount Etna
The guided walk lasts approximately 45 minutes.
At the end of the hike, the 4x4 off-road buses will take us back to the cable car station (2,500 m) for the descent to 1,900 meters.
Total duration: about 2 hours.
In Case of Volcanic Activity or Safety Restrictions
If access to the summit craters is not permitted, the excursion will be adapted to ensure safety while still delivering an unforgettable experience!
We’ll reach the Belvedere viewpoint, where, together with the Alpine guide, we’ll take a panoramic walk of about 30 minutes to the base of the summit craters, overlooking the impressive Valle del Bove.
The excursion will continue by off-road vehicle to the 2001 Crater, where we’ll enjoy a short 30-minute trek to the crater’s rim before returning.
Total duration: approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.
